The Austin Startups List was compiled from from Crunchbase, AngelList, LinkedIn, Google News searches, AreaStartups, AustinEmerging100.com, TexasTechPulse, AustinStartup, SiliconHills.com, GigaOm, Mashable, ReadwriteWrite, Capital Factory, Austin Technology Incubator, Austin Startup Bazaar, misc other events, and the grapevine.
While this may be most comprehensive list of Austin startups ever compiled, chances are we missed some awesome startups. If so, please let us know!
Scoring is based on data from SEMRush, SEOMoz, Blekko, Compete.com, Google Search, Google News, Google PageRank, Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Google Plus, Delicious, and Archive.org. We also used Mechanical Turk to verify some details.
In general, companies that scored in the top quartile of any category (traffic, content, SEO, social, or press) or overall are automatically listed on the main startup list. We also give some preference to brand new startups that have attracted recent press coverage, investment, or gained unexpected traction for their age.
